I’m about to tell you how I have so many lucid dreams.
It’s going to change everything, if you take action. It’s been my secret sauce so far on my lucid journey and today I spill the beans. I’ve been waiting until I was sure it could change your life.
You’ll have MORE lucid dreams and you will have them QUICKER than ever before.
Before I start, meditation is nothing new or revolutionary. No doubt Buddhist monks have been practicing this long before (insert something old here) was invented. But people continue to ignore it and can’t become lucid.
They’d rather drink apple juice before bed (facepalm).
I talk about how a high level of awareness is vital. It’s the most important thing you can practice. You’re wasting your time without it.
Progress will be much slower. I refuse to let anyone have less than 3 lucid dreams per week. That’s being conservative. If you follow the technique I’m about to give you (I invented it to make meditation much more powerful) I promise you will get what you want.
This is how it works
A lucid trance means using your mind to manipulate your senses while inside the trance state. You begin to play about with your new state of consciousness using mad skills. I’ll explain more later on. Just know if feels great.
Please be warned: Everything I’ve learned has been self-taught. Practitioners of certain techniques possibly may be sick in their mouth when they hear my descriptions. That’s fine. I don’t really care. I just want to explain it the best way I can so you get it.
Let’s get something straight
I don’t know how much Hollywood films you watch, but forget everything you think you know about a trance. During a trance you ARE NOT under any type of spell. It’s actually the opposite. Your mind is completely free. Your mind is under YOUR control. You know everything that’s going on.
Forget about everything you think monks do when they sit in their lotus position on top of the mountain. Forget about any people you have seen being hypnotized on a stage. A trance is a trance. Meditation and hypnosis are the exact same thing. The only difference is one uses suggestions and the other doesn’t.
A trance is when you become completely aware. It happens because that stupid little voice inside your head completely switches off. Completely. Your egotistical mind ceases to exist and you are purely conscious, while having direct contact with your subconscious mind.
It’s completely crazy
Once the annoying voice switches off strange things will begin to happen. You are the exact opposite of stressed. You are completely relaxed. But I’m going to let you experience that for yourself, rather than look like a fool trying to explain it. Just know it’s weird in a really nice way.
First you will use meditative techniques to cancel out your little voice, then you will give yourself hypnotic suggestions to go deeper into the trance. Remember: that just means you’ll become more relaxed and aware.
Do not worry. Trance is a happy word. You will be in complete control of your mind at all times, and your lucid dreams will skyrocket.
Stage 1 – The entry
I want you to lie down. Doesn’t matter where. On your bed. The floor. Whatever. Just get as comfortable as possible. Just choose somewhere you’re prepared to fall asleep.
Now you need to get into the trance, and it just so happens I’ve already shown you how to do it here – The first step towards the lucid trance.
Once you’re in and comfortable you may want to get used to this feeling for a few days, or a week. It’s not a race. Practice getting in and out of a trance until you can do it easily. It will almost certainly take you a while to do it properly, but that is what’s supposed to happen. Go now; I’ll wait.
Stage 2 – Going deeper
Now comes the hypnotic suggestions. Because you’ve switched that annoying internal voice off you now have direct access to your subconscious mind. Have a look into the backs of your eyelids and see what’s there. You need to really focus and it will become clear. Look as hard as you can. You should see hundreds and thousands of little dots.
Now you need some imagination
You’re going to have to play around with those dots. It’s pretty easy to do this once you’re in a trance. You can imagine them moving in all sorts of directions, but for now we’ll stick with using them to go deeper and get more relaxed.
Imagine you are in space. All those dots are actually stars. What would they look like if you were free-falling downwards? They’d be moving upwards, right? As you fall down the stars would be slowly becoming smaller and smaller because you’re moving away from them.
I told you it takes imagination. But it works if you stick at it. You also have to imagine the sensations in your body as you fall. There must have been a time when you were in free-fall.
Maybe as a lift starts to go down. Or have you ever woken yourself up because you suddenly had the sensation of falling? That’s what you want to imagine at the same time as visualizing the stars.
The idea is to use the ‘stars’ to trick your mind into thinking you are falling down. You use the dots to trick your mind into sensing depth. Your mind is a funny little thing. It’s easy to play about with it.
Hypnotic suggestions for me is merely speaking to your subconscious. With meditation you feel or watch. Hypnosis is giving commands. Simple.
When you’re falling I want you to say to yourself (silently):
As I fall deeper and deeper, I become more and more relaxed. With each breathe I take, my body is getting heavier and heavier.
Say it like you mean it. Your subconscious will be listening. As you’re saying it imagine your body is getting heavier and you can feel the relaxation passing through every part of you. Remember: you also need to keep convincing your mind you are falling through space.
There you go. That’s hypnotic suggestion 101. Obviously it’s easier because you’re already in a trance. Now you should be well and truly relaxed and have a calm mind ready for the main event.
Stage 3 – The lucid trance
By now you will feel like you’re inside a cocoon. There is nothing else in the world. You have a force field of energy around you and are totally at ease.
The idea of a lucid trance is to use your mind to manipulate what you see and feel, for example:
- If you imagine you are on the ocean you can make your mind believe you are bobbing up and down on the waves and your body will begin bobbing
- Imagining the dots on the back of your eyelids flying past you will make you feel like you’re flying through space
- If you use your mind to shift the dots from side to side you can trick your mind into believing you’re swinging on a hammock
- By thinking you are spinning around in a circle it will actually feel like you are spinning around in a circle.
I have no idea why it happens. Maybe because you are so self-aware of your body you can feel even the tiniest little thing. If you can also trick your mind it actually feels like you are moving when you are obviously not.
The whole idea is to play about inside this state of consciousness. You’re completely aware, using your conscious mind to manipulate the world inside your cocoon.
I don’t want to tell you how long you should use the above method. I use it for between 30-60 minutes. Start small in the beginning and work your way up, making sure you feel comfortable at all times.
Once you are ready to go to sleep you can shift your attention to:
- Lucid affirmations
You already know what to do with these — if you don’t, click here! — so I won’t teach you to suck eggs. Just spend 5 minutes giving yourself affirmations you will become lucid inside your dream. You can even use your third eye* to stare at your hands.
* Third Eye – Try and imagine what a pineapple looks like. If you can see it, you are using your third eye.
This is the final piece in the puzzle. If you’ve already read my starters guide – Exploring the Mysterious World of Imagination – you will already know I say you should visualize a dream in which you are actually lucid.
It’s the same deal: just visualize a lucid dream while using as much of your senses as you can.
I want you to fall asleep while visualizing without coming out of the lucid trance. To have lucid dreaming as the last thing on your mind before you drop off.
- Do this before you go to bed. The more you do it, the better the results.
- If you want to do it more than once per day, you can, but still do it before you go to bed at night.
- It will take you a little while to get into a trance easily. Don’t worry.
- Use your imagination and try and manipulate your body/mind in any way you want while you are in the trance.
P.S. – It’s my belief that a lucid trance takes you one step further than meditation or hypnosis. It’s not easy to manipulate your senses. Sometimes you have to really force complete and utter awareness onto it. Bingo. This is why I think it allows for much more lucid dreams. You take your awareness to a new level.
P.P.S. – You should still be keeping a dream journal and doing your reality checks every day.
