Someone was trying to teach me how to be a superhero a while ago.
That superhero was Wolverine, the dude with the blades that shoot out of his knuckles.
I remember looking on in amazement as the blades came shooting out of my knuckles too. At first I could only get them to come half way out, but some mysterious dream guide taught me a two-step process for getting the blades out every time.
I practiced for a while and every time I saw them come out of my skin I got even more excited.
The Mutual Dream Experiment
A few months ago I received a tweet from Dr. Rory Mac Sweeney over at Wake Up In Your Dreams. He let me know about an experiment he was setting up to explore whether or not it was possible to share dreams with other people.
Everyone in the experiment would choose a random word and they would try to pass a message to everyone else on the last Saturday of every month. The following day everyone would enter the password they were given and we would try to get a match.
The first few months flew past and I didn’t get a match, but something very weird happened last month. Even though I had another lucid dream later on in the night something about my Wolverine dream stood out.
I decided to enter the ‘wolverine’ password and I got the biggest surprise of my life when I got a match. Out of all the words in the world someone decided to choose Wolverine as their password.
Coincidence or not?
Obviously I’m not convinced I shared a dream with someone while I slept. If I’m ever to believe shared dreams are possible I’ll need more proof. One positive result could easily be classed as a coincidence, but it’s definitely given me hope for the future.
If you’d asked me if I thought shared dreams were possible before the experiment I would have said maybe. As a species I think we’re too stupid to realize everything that’s possible at the moment.
Maybe in the future we’ll discover it is possible to share dreams. Maybe we won’t, but we’ll discover something else is possible even though we wouldn’t have believed it in the past.
I can’t say I believe shared dreams are possible, but I can say I believe we don’t know everything yet so it could be possible.
You should get involved too
This experiment is open to anyone and it promises to be huge. At the moment we’re only doing it once per month, so if you’re the least bit curious you should sign up right now before you forget.
If you’re interested you can sign up here – Mutual Dream Experiment
If you get a match I hope you come back and tell me about it in the comments below. You can also let me know if you’ve tried something similar in the past with positive results.
